 Asheboro Street Baptist Church had a passion in the early 1950s to begin a Mission Church. This Mission Church, later called Parkway Baptist Church, began having services in Brooks School in 1956 while the members waited for their building to be completed. Under the leadership of Dr. Leroy Parker, there was excitement in April 1957 as the growing church attended the groundbreaking ceremony. Parkway added the educational building a year later and constructed a second educational building and the chapel in 1963. The church experienced remarkable growth in the late 1950s and early 1960s and attempted to follow in Asheboro Street's footsteps by giving 50-50 to missions. For each dollar spent on current expenses, another dollar was given for missions. This influences Parkway's giving even today as we push ourselves to give to local, national and international missions during the year. Parkway's history has been guided by the following pastors: Dr. Leroy Parker (1956-1959) The Lord has continued to bless the ministry of Parkway Baptist Church. After the addition of a prayer garden in the 1990s, updating and renovating the sanctuary in 2001 and the playground in 2008, Parkway continues to grow into a church who meets the needs of our members and of the surrounding community. The church has also been given a wonderful Pastor, Reverend Brent Thomas, along with his wife, Kyle, and 6 children--Hannah, Rebekah, Sophia, Eli, Lydia and Ella. With his guidance, we work towards the goals that God has for us. As a congregation, we look forward to seeing all that the Lord is going to do in the future as we JOURNEY FORWARD! |
