| Deep Impact 2011 July 9, 2011 We made it back safely. All are exhausted but we really had a wonderful trip and I think each and everyone of us learned more about each other and God and have grown all around. We are definitly blessed and I hope and pray that we all continue to grow in our relationship with God and will take what we experianced on this trip into our daily lives. Shelley
July 8, 2011 This was the last full day of camp, although it rained we still had fun! Today was a succesful rainy day!!! I will miss all my camp friends! I hope I get to come next year. -Hannah Well today was the last full day of camp. It was a fun week spent getting closer to each other, new friends and most importantly God. Our speaker, Chad Poe, was really great. He is one of those people that tell what seems like the most hilariously random stories but relate it in the end to the topic he was preaching on. Although there was one story that left us wondering, it was a "simple plan" as he liked to call it, which involved an Outback, a bloomin' onion and locked stalls in the bathroom. The band, Big Daddy Weave, was fantastic, although the lead singer Mike Weaver's wife was having a c-section and was not there all week. His replacement was a guy named Chris from Chris and Chad. The band's name comes from the fact that Mike Waver is a large guy and well, Chris is not. So we affectionatly called them Little Daddy Weave. Dawn, Hannah and I chose our task to be beach volleyball. It started out as an interesting week considering that none of the team was very good. Luckily we joined forces with another beach volleyball team, with whom we made many new friends. It was super hot up where we were playing, which was on the portion of sand right next to the sand dunes and untouched by the cooling ocean waves. We ended up digging holes with our feet so that we would not scorch them too bad, those holes were about a foot deep and eventually made us lazy so that unless the ball came to where we could reach it from our little holes we let it drop. Although there were a few brave ones who dove into the scorching sand to get the ball. Our most dramatic night was Thursday night, which by now I assume that most of you have heard about. It involved an off roading adventure in the van, a pizza delivery and new friends made in the ER. That night the ER was the hot spot to be for Caswell people to hang out at. All in all our experiance was great. It was really a gowing experiance for all of us. And even though we all got burnt and some of us injured in some way, I doubt that we regret going on this trip. I thank God we had the oppurtunity to go and I thank all the people who supported us through the Spaghetti Lunch for allowing us to come! ~Rebecca Hi all, Today is the last full day of camp. We have had a wonderful week, even with my ability to find holes. I did have to go to the ER last night due to a second fall on the same ankle. It seems to be sprained but acording to the doctor I will need to get a second x-ray after the swelling goes down to check for hairline fractures. But I do want to brag on our girls. They have all been absolutley wonderful. Espcially Sarah and Rebecca. Sarah stayed with me all day to help and Rebecca has been helping me all evening. They came to serve, but little did we know that I would also be blessed by their willingness. Each one of them has gone out of their way to help me and so has Zack. He got to stay at the ER until 2:30am ...to sya the least we are both exhausted today. Regardless of my fun with falling, I am very glad that I got to come on this trip and I can't wait to share even more once we are back. -Shelley
July 6, 2011 Well today has been a good day. My ankle, although sore, was much better and I can walk. So I was able to fully help my group today. We painted and did yard work today...There was a lot of evidence of me painting all over me when I returned from the worksite. The people's houses that my group is working on have physical issues that make it hard for them to do this work. We have been able to talk with each of the homeowners and pray for them. We had two young girls from the area to come join us and help. One was the granddaughter of one of the home owners. She was telling us that her grandfather had to have part of his lung removed and that her dad was waiting on a double transplant. We need to all pray for this family. But she was out there working right along side us and had the best attitude. Sarah had a great day as well. Her group finished their handicap ramp and will start a new project tomorrow. Hannah, Dawn, and Rebecca had a great day playing volley ball. They came back covered in sand and well...just a bit red....some more than others. They were excited that they got to meet lots of people and invite them to play as well. I haven't had a chance to talk with Zack yet about his day but I can only assume it has gone just as well. Continue to pray for our group and all the groups here that we are a great example for Christ and that we plant seeds in the ones that we come in contact with. Shelley
July 5, 2011 I have been playing volley ball alot today!!!! We started at 10:00 am and finished at 3:00 pm! We had a bunch of people of the beach come and play with us it was really fun! I had sand all over me when we finally finished. I was laying in the sand half the time because I kept diving for the ball!!! Beach Volley ball is so fun I can't wait for tommorow!!! Hannah
July 5, 2011 We are all on our sites today. I do hope all is going well with the other groups. I, however, can only sit and watch my group work. I have sprained my ankle... Not a good thing but as I have told my team I will live. I think tomorrow I will be able to help paint... We have to paint steps and their railing and I can sit and do that. I will try to post pictures later of what our teens have been up to today. Shelley
July 4, 2011 Today is our 1st full day here at Caswell. We have all met with our ministry teams and have gone through training so that we will be able to go out tomorrow and serve. This years trip will be different from last year in that we are all on different teams: Rebeccah, Dawn, and Hannah are all on a Volley Ball Evengalism Team, Zack is on a Beach Evangelism Team and Sarah and I are on construction teams. Sarah will be building a handicap ramp and I will be painting, yard work, and any other odd job they give our group. We are all very excited about what God has planned for us and are looking forwards to going out tomorrow. I will continue to put updates and pictures here as time allows so that you too can be apart of our trip. Shelley |
